When it does, it will then clear the 'permanent' code itself and the CEL will go out (and you can 'pass' a mandated smog test). The certain determination of fault correction cannot be 'forced' on the vehicle computer by an external code-clearing device - the computer must make its own determination over a period of multiple drive cycles. + The above is mandated by Federal Law in an effort to prevent the immediate short-term clearing of critical emissions related DTCs as a circumvention of emissions testing but while also allowing the repair facility to determine that a repair has been effective. + The 'Permanent' DTC will clear itself after a certain number of drive cycles where the internal computer determines that indeed, the triggering fault no longer exists. + The dealer is correct, the DTC is still present in the car's DTC non-volatile RAM. + The dealer is correct, his particular OEM equipment allows him to detect that the cause of the DTC trigger has been corrected in spite of the presence of the DTC. I told them I will play their game and pay $500 but I am going to have issues when the P1450 comes back again. I ordered full unit from ROCK AUTO and installed myself in less than 30 minutes. Of course, being Ford, they want to replace the whole canister and the valve (have read if valve is faulty for lengthy period, it can cause damage to box.) Of course, they wanted $96 for the valve and 230 to install it (We have 2WD). I replaced just the valve and reset DTC codes (permanent remained) but it then eninge light came on again after 40-50 miles.įiguring it was not the Purge Valve or gas cap, I took to "friendly" dealer and paid $135 diag fee to tell me it was the purge canister valve. I also cleaned an gas filling area and both external and internal flaps. It had the P1450 error so I did the typical search and it yielded replacing the purge valve.
